“We should never convince ourselves that we will never face any challenges in life. Instead, we should remind our mind, body, and spirit that we were created with the powerful ability to overcome life’s challenges….” -Tamidra-

Life has a way of wanting you to stay trapped in the maze of past mistakes and unfortunate circumstances. The twists and turns of negative reminders of what went wrong once upon a time often try to remain as mental blocks of discouragement. Perhaps the young man in the picture above, standing anonymously in dark shades in the midst of onlookers with a boyish smile, stood there jokingly. Perhaps he and a group of joy seeking friends laughed at this idea and passed it off as the moment of a lifetime.
Perhaps….what he didn’t quite know was that the image on his shirt, a representation of a time in which Tiger embarked upon a journey of despair, would become Tiger’s testimony of sorts.
Let’s spend a moment talking about this image on the young man’s shirt. A no smiling Tiger stared into the jailhouse camera for an infamous mugshot. The look of disappointment, depression, and defeat were all embedded in his eyes. That was his life at the moment that picture was taken. People, the crowd, some of his fans, sports commentators….so many people gave up on him. They counted him out during the worst time of his life. Some said he should just retire. Some called him a former golf player to suggest his days of success were simply over. They cast him aside. He seemingly became a shadow where he once shined bright.
But all of this is what made Sunday, April 14, 2019 a day to remember. Tiger Woods wandered through a maze of negativity. He came in as what was seemingly a shadow. He was faced with moments of his past. However, he knew better. Tiger knew what he was created to do. Nothing in the world could take that away from him, and he proved it. Despite it all, Tiger Woods won his 5th green jacket at the 2019 Masters at Augusta National. He won over everyone who was there to see him fail. He won over everyone who counted him out. He won over negativity itself.
And that, my friends, is what we must learn to do in our own lives. We will face moments that our own mistakes have created. Stone-like opinions of others will be thrown at us. People will find joy in counting us out. They will find joy in our difficult times. We must know for ourselves that we were created with the ability to overcome all of this. Negativity is only a distraction. Just as Tiger did, we have to keep moving forward. Walk past the distractions. Smile. Laugh. Enjoy life, and know that there is still a win within you!
Friends, it’s time to do great things!
